anyone know where to get large electrolytic capacitor for cheap? i saw some 9600uf 400v electrolytics for $15.00 each at a surplus store, is that a good buy?

Assuming they're in decent condition and work thats still 768 Joules per cap. so its not a bad price. just if they're old when you charge them the first time bring the voltage up slowly.

Measure it's capacitance with a meter to confirm its rated capacitance (obviously), charge it to confirm its insulation is good, let it sit charged for a bit (in a safe place where people won't touch it) to see how long it holds a charge to see if leakage is within reason.
