im going to be using a 55 timer to delay the switching of my SCR's , im using an optical switch for triggering so, i was wondering if anyone knew a good circuit that i could use that when the optical switch is tripped it would turn on the timer and then turn on my SCR's. ive searched around a little bit but cant find anything i like O.o

Its called a monostable circuit:

When the photogate will trigger the output high for a set amount of time. Since you want a delay, throw a schmitt trigger on the output: Link2

Thank you, I just tested my optical switch and its really slow, im not sure ill be able to use that for switching anymore. I can just let the bullet fall vertically through it and the pulse is so small that im not sure it will even detect the projectile at fireing speed :'(

The signal will need to be amplified using an op amp.

What kind of photodetector do you have? You may need to point a Infrared/normal LED at it. Photodiodes are quite fast.

You will then probably want this to dump a capacitor into the SCR gate when you trigger it so you get a nice fast switching time

okay so im going to be using 2 556 timers for switching, one to set a delay for when the phototransistor beam is blocked and then use the other one to make the output high turning on the relays ill be using for my new project, i think i got it all figured out now O.o i do right?

Edit: no i would only want the first timer to control the relay cause the ouput would be low with a high input and high with a low input right?
