barrel angle for maximum projectile distance?

would the angle be 45º like kinetits has taught me, or something else. I'm not able to test this inside my house and I don't want to lose the projectile outside.

I will be firing the gun in a gymnasium but i do not get any test shots

45 degrees should do it (inb4physics argument).

Of course the best way to get the projectile going farther is to simply speed it up. shades

like always theres some maths you have to do.....i dont exactly know what it is though :P

however i do know that for naval guns the optimal angle is around 35 degress i think, dont know what affects it though

That may have something to do with the optimal impact angle... not necessarily maximum range.

45 degrees is the correct angle in a vacuum, the calculus is simple and exact, and the answer involves only 3 parameters, the launch speed, launch angle and gravity. For short ranges and low speeds, air is reasonably approximated by a vacuum.

For long ranges and high speeds experienced with naval guns (do they use navals for projectiles, or are they for shooting at someone's naval?) air cannot be ignored and so you have to include the projectile weight and aerodynamics, and replace a trivial bit of calculus with a nasty bit of numerical integration. Either that, or point the guns "down a bit" from 45 degrees.

I have heard, and I don't know whether it's true, that in calculating shell trajectories for gun laying during WW2, the largest error term was not in the wind speed, air density or the drag curves, or even the roll angle of the ship at the instant of firing, but estimating the propellant charge temperature, thus burn rate, and thus muzzle velocity.
