A linear induction acceleration experiments

I am trying to accelerate an armature that is made of Al by electro-magnetic force.
I use devices which was used as coilgun, but it didn't work at all.
I think that the power of the capacitor is poor so as to generate electric current in the armature.
The input energy is about 60J.
(If I use a projectile made of Fe , this devices can accelerate the projectile up to 1.5J.)
I want to hear your ideas.

No idea if this is right or not, but im pretty sure that for something like this to work the coil needs to be behind the projectile, not around it. when the magnetic field is created and current induced in the projectile it will be repelled away from the magnet

El Roberto was correct first of all you have to know that electro magnetic force should be produce inside coil and if the projectile is located inside the coil nothing will be happened instead of suck back, you have to put the projectile behind the coil. and if the thickness of your coil is higher the electro magnetic force will be high too, ofcourse you have to increase the energy by putting good high voltage/capacitance capacitors to produce demanded electromagnetic force.

My acceleration coil's spec is
(Solenoid type)
Outer radius : 17mm
Inner radius : 5mm
Winding radius : 1.0mm
Coil length : 20mm

Is this coil comparatively thick?
(If I use "thin coil" , a resistance of the circuit is too low to my SCR.
So I must use resistance to restrict the current.)
