My circuit is as follows:
coil is connected to diode parrallel with it. The cathode of the diode is connected to the cathode of the SCR. The anode of the SCR is connecting to the capacitor, and the cathode of the capacitor connected to the cathode anode of the diode.
When i try to charge the cap, it shorts throught the SCR. When the SCR is un connected, it doesnt conduct. But oncei put the capacitor in, it shorts right through the SCR.
In addition, My voltage quadroupler was plugged in, and connected to the cap. The voltage quadroupler capacitor blew, spewing electrolytic vapor. Why did this happen?

Bad news. I disconnected the SCR's compleatly, and tested them. One of them is conducting both ways with no gate signal. The other two are fine. How is it possiable it burned? An anti-parrallel diode was in place, and i only used one capacitor. Is there any other way this could have happned, like EM field?

nothing, never gave power to gate.
EDIT: i just tried again, with 1 of the working SCR's and a set of 2 capacitors in parrallel. While i was charging the capacitors, it got to 160, and with no gate signal, it suddenly discharged through the SCR. This keeps happening. When i disconnect the SCR, the SCR works fine. Is it possible that the leakage current is enough to trigger it?

EDIT EDIT: It occured to me that it could be maximum rate of voltage rise. The datasheet says its 500v/us. Do you think its feasible that mains can do that?

having a problem with coilgun
