not a good idea (assuming your using it for a electromagnetic accelerator). with low voltage (12vdc) you will require huge amounts huge amounts of current to transfer the energy and thus will need ridiculously sized wire. Also they actually are not cost effective even those big 3 farad caps only contain 216 joules of energy.

Not to mention that pulse discharges kill supercapacitors. You should either order some caps or use photoflash caps at a good margin below their voltage rating.

Yea, i have a big blue capacitor and it is like 60,000uf and it would not work on a coil gun because it would shoot the projectile forward and then suck it back due to there being a charge after it moved forward.

Well a good place to get some VERY cheap capacitors is alltronics.

These capacitors are only 7 bucks each, and for 2 capacitors my shipping price was like 6 bucks. They hold 312 joules each when fully charged. I bought two, they haven't arrived, but when they do i will let you know if they are quality.
