a while back i piched up about 10 capacitors from a couple of pc power supplies (avarage 250v 470uf) . ive got above average electrician skills. if i usea camera charge board ir another charger i can build simply, what would be the most efficient way to make a coilgun. if anyone has any plans i could follow i would greatly appreciate it.

A camera charge board would probably work to charge but it would probably be slow charging. You can either parallel or series-parallel the caps to get the desired voltage and capacitance. For me I would personally series-parallel them to get 400volts and 2350uf.
As for a basic circuit for the coil gun it’s extremely simple. You would have a coil on a barrel (preferably non-metal but it isn’t extremely important unless you’re going for efficiency). Set up the caps so that they discharge through the coil with some sort of a trigger method (SCR/Switch).
I would recommend this site: because it explains everything in greater detail. Google is also helpful.

thanks firebird, i understand what parallel and series are, but how does that make the voltage jump to 400v, because all the capacitors i have are 250v.

Imagine two parallel metal plates in space. They for a capacitor with a capacitance of X and it has a maximum working voltage of Y. If you move the plates twice as far away from each other, then the capacitance will be halved and the maximum working voltage would be doubled.
