My lifter project begins... this project is supported by two other project threads. First my lab power supply, and second, my High Voltage probe both threads are seen below.
HV Flyback Bench Top Power Supply for Lab.
High Voltage probe for O-scope, 2 of 2, ( FABRICATION ).
The CF frame should wheigh in at 2.6 grams and is already pretty strong. ill have to wheigh it to high accuracy on monday when the physics lab opens.
Equilateral triangle with 305mm on a side length, should weigh 2.6 grams as shown. still needs the aluminum foil skirt (50mm) and the corona wire... each CF rod is 1.0 mm in diameter.
My instruments:
The anenmometer is for velocity of turbulent and laminar air flow, the differential manometer is for laminar flows only through a carefully desinged restriction.

I wanted to try using some of the new solid state HV850 ICs in parallel to get the 60V p-p to drive the primary of the piezo transformer. Then put several of them in series with diodes between them to get the requried 30+ KV at 5mA
Ought to be very lightweight as no ferrite transformer is needed. Figure 2 ICs in parallel per stage with tied clocks, 12 stages with approx 2.2KV p-p unloaded so 26 KV out.
Seems that one way to get a stable output is to put a diode and reservoir capacitor across the output so that the voltage doesen't vary much.
To reduce weight even further, use conductive fibre as the ground electrode run along the surface of the frame and thin wires wound underneath this between the two lower supports. Then 44 gauge SS wire coated with barium titanate as an emitting mixture to increase electron emission like a thermionic valve.
Would be also amusing to try and make a "flame Lifter" using burners in place of the emitter wires to optimise the efficiency as flames are *very* conductive.

This is my first effort towards a self powered fully integrated DeSeversky lifter... im itrigued as to you piezo idea...please describe it more.

I built one myself, but using 50KV:
Will 35KV be enough for this?
There are some formulas ill show you, my goal for this project is to help me move toward a mach 5+, 200K foot altitude lifter that is self powered and wheighs several thousand pounds. I have no idea if any of this is possible but thats what im going to try. i need to demonstrate flight above the armstrong line, and preferably above the Karman line.
It is my opinion that thermo-kinetic propulsion schemes like the scram jet are dead ends, and that electro-kinetic propulsion offers the only true path to common and cheap access to space for civil and martial purposes.

Self powered? You will be running a device that is "throwing" charge away as part of its normal operating mode. You have no "earth" to work against and pump charge out of. How will the charge carriers return to the supply? Kirchhoff will not be cheated. Were they to return, what would the momentum imparted by the ions "coming back" do to the overall propulsive effect?
Also, what will happen at altitude? You will strike a glow discharge between the powered wire and the supply return at the reduced pressures. This will completely eliminate the ion wind you rely on for propulsion (and short the supply as well).
Just a thought, don't mean to rain on your parade.

Charge will ultimately be conserved just as with the XPS system on the JPL deep space probe, ive got some ideas on how to avoid glow, but its low air density that worries me most.
