I hope someone in this section can point me in the right direction.

I am looking for a SCR, 600vac @50A

I will be pulsing it somewhere between 10-30khz

What models would work and where could I get some? Hopefully, my next question will be a post on the sale/trade board once I know what I need.

SCR at 10-30khz? You can forget it I believe. Once switched on, an SCR turns off when current flowing through it drops below a certain threshold. Its fairly difficult to extinguish the scr... 50A isnt much either..

What you are looking for is probably an IGBT. Or a high powered MOSFET. Then again, its hard to switch AC current with just one semiconductor, you will have to use two of them?

Maybe i misunderstood your post?

If I have to use two or four that is fine. I would prefer a half-bridge setup as this is easier. I want to make a scr power controller. I know they are used for industrial power control for an induction heater.

Maybe I am using the wrong switching frequency.

I have already built an igbt converter. I think a scr would be better.

So, not knowing much about SCRs, what model would I need?

Just curious ... what do thyristor inverters have to do with electromagnetic launchers?

PS. their use in industry is mostly because of legacy ... if the cost is not a factor (and at 50A it isn't) IGBT designs are just plain better.

I was told that many coil-gunners use them.

I will probably use igbts, but I wanted to see if scrs were worth pursuing.

SCR usually are design for mains frequency, (50-60Hz) You'll probably have trouble finding one fast enough for your 10-39KHz

But, i have some experience with the SK065K SCR, it is 1kv and 65-70 amp (i guess that depends on the lead style). 950 amp is the peak pulse, which i have use 5 parallel sk065k's to switch an 800v 1950uf bank into a dead short with short wires with no problem at 1.5v on the gate (D cell).
