Single turn on a toroid and how it relates to inductance

I recently learned that it isn’t possible to have fractions of a turn on a toroid, although I measured significant differences in the inductance of the toroids with the different “one turn” setups I experimented with.
Here is snapshots of the my test setup

And is it possible to have half a turn on other core types?

You always have an integer number of turns, whether for a toroid, or any other type of core including Es and Is. Sometimes when people advocate winding a fractional turn through just one limb of an EI core, it's properly analysed as an integer number of turns through the whole core, in series with an integer number through a different geometry core. Current flows in circuits, it always has to start and end in the same place, you cannot topologically have anything other than an integer number of turns threading any given magnetic circuit.

Do bear in mind that the core inductance is very small, and a significant part of the inductance in your circuit is not shown in the pictures, and that's the physical configutation of your test leads, which is in series with your test core. If you want to compare small inductances like that, you really need to make a little jig with a couple of 4mm plugs the right distance apart for your meter, with croc-clips soldered on the top. Then the little varying thing isn't contaminated by your test leads flopping around. As an experiment, short your croc clips together, then observe the reading as you move the leads around - squeeze the leads together to minimise the area, then spread them out to enclose as much area as possible.
