A good freind of mine is selling me a Eico 425 scope. the manuel says I can use it up to 2.5 mhz if I use full gain and regular is 400khz. I love tube stuff, but do you think this is good enough for tc work? such as drsstc, sstc, setting a staccato on a tc etc?

I wouldn't use this scope for actual use since the ratings are a lot worse than modern scopes. It has a really low -3db point and the caps are probably pretty old. It would still be a nice unit to take apart to figure out how they made the old tube scopes though. I guess it's more of a collector's item than an actual piece of instrumentation that someone would use on a daily basis.
I wasn't able to open the doc through the link you sent but I found the manual here:
Hi, I'm not sure what -3db is, can you explain? But, even thought it isn't the best scope, is it good enough? I collect vintage electronics so I know how to repair it. what i'm thinking is that they had to use it back them in '51 so it had to be good enough for them, eh?

generally you want a scope rated for ten times the frequency of the signal you will be measuring. The frequency specified is only for a perfect sine wave.
so if you are only building 40khz circuits it will be fine.
