Super quick question. If I were to remove the shunts from a NST how long will it last? I am thinking of drawing about 120mA from a 60mA NST. Will the NST over saturate or just over heat and eventually short circuit? Just curious since I don't want to buy one only to find it smoking.

if its power you want your best bet is dual mot stack with a voltage doubler,
nst can't take abuse, there pretty gutless!mistrust

Of the NSTs that I have seen none have easily accessible cores for insulation they are potted either in Tar or Resin.
NSTs are not conservatively rated why would a manufacturer use wire for 120 mA and sell it as 60 mA?
Even with the shunts in it's not too difficult to destroy an NST so I would not waste an NST by modifying it (or attempting to)
