So, apparently the simplest things ellude me...I've managed to build a HV power supply and IR sensors for a new coil gun project, BUT I'm driving myself crazy trying put together a simple battery charge indicator with an LM3916 and 10 segment LED bar graph display. I've looked through dozens of schematics and breadboarded it out about a dozen times but no dice. think I'm going wrong between pins 4 and 8.
Granted I the only pots i have are salvaged and have no clear markings and i'm not sure what do with the reference voltage that supposed to be on Pin 5 - does that come from the same positive voltage input that goes to pin 3 or from some other source?
Need help, please!

A schematic would be helpful in this case and this thread is a bit off topic in this board, so make a post here: and ask it to be moved to the general electronics board. You'll probably get more replies with it there too.
