hii guyss.. its first time to me to post in this forum im very friendly with h v projects soo i have a fly-back transformer and im running it with 555 timer& mosfet getting arc 3 cm
i decided to make ionizer any one can help me how i do it ?? and the frame of ionizer what will be .... also i wanna now when i do arc i smell ozone is it bad for my health

Small amounts of ozone is not dangerous. You will feel pretty bad before it gets dangerous so you will notice it before it becomes a problem. Have a look here:

If you make an ionizer you should try to limit the amount of ozone it makes.

I can speak from personal experience with this. I was in a very small, crowded room running a powerful flaming arc maybe an inch long from a HV transformer via half bridge inverter. I was turning it on and off, thinking it would be okay if I used it in short intervals. I really lost track of the time... but there was probably about an hour of this. Surely enough, I started feeling kind of dizzy and nauseated. I turned it off and laid down for a few minutes, but still felt like I was going to throw up. However, there were three other people in this tiny freshman dorm (albeit at the other side of the room) who didn't report any symptoms! I took a walk outside in the fresh air and was fine in no time...

Moral of the story, Bjorn is right, you will notice that something is wrong before dropping dead- it's no carbon monoxide. And besides, your air ionizer won't be pulling nearly as much wattage as my device was.

If you have a flyback transformer already up and running, all you have to do is ground one side of the output and the other should glow blue (indicating plasma/ion production).
According to wikipedia (

) "A positive corona generates much less ozone than the corresponding negative corona" so if your flyback is DC, you should ground the negative side in order to get positive plasma from the other end.

my friend make it and says to me "it get fresh and cool air with high speed flow " Anyway special thnx to this information

Ozone is bad for the health. You get irritated eyes, nose, and even ears. Your clothes lose color, your tools rust.

Some of the damage produced by corona discharges in air is due to nitric acid formation, up to 5 g HNO3 being produced
for every kilo of O3.

I have a flyback powered air ionizer,the air ionizers have two benefits,
1 - the ionised airborne particles are atracted to earthy objects
(any nearby object/wall etc.) so are removed from the air.
I KNOW this works because of the ammount of collected dust.
2 - before a thunderstorm we often feel depressed, afterwards happy.
It could be just dreary and cheerful weather,
or maybe the overall positively charged then negatively charged air.
Commercial ionizers (and mine) produce negative high voltage for cheerful negative ions.
A positive voltage will produce depressing ions, it would also encourage the metal electrode to vapourize into the air.

I think that the negative ions do have a slight cheerful effect
- but I could be getting a placebo effect so I couldn't say it's definately true.
Positive eht will blunten pinpoints etc. quicker than negative eht so that bit seems true.

TV and monitor flybacks have inbuilt diodes to produce positive eht only.

thnx suliman.. I think sulimn is arabian name .well just i wanna know the frame of ionizer what will be .. If u can to capture it and post pics here i will be very happy ..:) and i wanna ask if flyback can up ionizer or it need to voltage multiplyer

For the output electrodes you need many sharp points,
I have used a row of sewing needles - ok
A wire brush - ok

In the dark you should just about be able to see each point 'glowing' blue from the corona.

If you hold one end of a neon bulb with about 1nF to 10nF >= 100V in parallel,
and attach about 4 sq.in. (2" x 2") of aluminum cooking foil to the other end, the foil will collect ions and make the neon flash. Faster flashing = more ions available.

You can also use a thin guitar string pulled taught. That's what commercial ionizers use.
