Hey everyone, I decided I'm going to build a Negative Ion Generator basically by taking a Cockcroft-Walton generator and plopping some current limiting resistors on the end (a design I've stumbled across many, many times while browsing the internet). I'm having trouble, however, finding equations for the generator. I've seen 100nF-220nF caps used, but I'm not entirely sure how they're getting the values (or how they know how many stages they need to get the desired voltage output). I'm just wondering if anyone has any good reading material to help me out with this or has any equations available they can throw my way to help me out?

Thanks!

There are some simple C&W java calculators at cosmicrays.org, here:

The size of the capacitors is derived from both the frequency, and the required output current.

As for the number of stages, one stage doubles, two stages triples, three stages quadruples, and so on.

And remember the site rules - please do your homework first. A quick search on GOOGLE will result in many websites with CW design equations.

Actually, I did do my research first and couldn't find any sites besides a site called blazelabs, but I couldn't verify that those were the equations I was looking for. And that wasn't even until the third page.
