I have read somewhere that the coating of some resistors can become softened and even eventually decentegrate when submersed in oil. Does anyone have experience whith this or know which resistors can safely be submerged?

What is the reason for immersion in oil? Is it for cooling or high voltage insulation? Resistors have votage ratings; It is possible to overvolt a resistor without exceeding its power rating.
