Hello All,

I am attempting to drive a half bridge with an IR2184 driver chip and am having some issues.
I have had no experience with high side driver before so am seeking advice.

The circuit I am following is:
Link2

The half bridge is issolated from the mains so it is floating.
The 15v vcc is being driven a workbench power supply.

The input of the ir2184 is being driven by a square wave generator.

I am a little confused as to where the com connects too?
Does it connect to the half bridge gnd supply or the gnd supply of the workbench power supply.
I just cant seem to get it too work,

Any advice is much appreciated,
Thanks
SRG

com is a common tie point for the negitive. be carefull this circuit is floating and attension should payed on how it is connected up. If I were going to connect this up I would get a transformmer to seperate the lines nutral from the negitive of your circuit so you can make safe mesurments. At the IR website you may be able to find some applications data. I would start by connecting up the circuit in the PDF for this device and injecting a signal.

I used that driver chip on my first board. Instead, use a gate drive transformer and the tc4421 and tc4422 driver chips. This setup was more robust and does not fry as easily if you make a mistake.

I was using originally using the tc4421 / tc4422 with drive transformer but figured the ic method to be more favourable ie cleaner waveform / inhibit and so on.

I knocked up a test circuit using the ir2184 and running off of 12v supply driven by a 5v square wave.
It kind of worked ie the half bridge was switching.
But when measuring the gate drive inputs I noticed that the high out was about 12v while the Low out was around 7v additionally i noticed that everything seemed to appear to be floating negative by about 2v not sure why?

Thanks
SRG
