I am using a half-bridge inverter for an induction heater. The mosfets are the ixfn56n90p. A 0.4uf capacitor is attached to each path of the half-bridge. The gate is charged using the 9A TC4421 and TC4422 drivers going through 5 ohms and a ferrite bead.
The pictures shows the inverter voltage and current. I have offset the tracings for easier readability.
The ringing is a timing issue: I am guessing that there is too much dead time. What can I do? Would putting a reverse diode in parallel with the gate resistors help by shorting the discharge path? Is this a problem anyway?

The ringing is caused when the load current is commutated between switches and diodes. You might want to try altering the tuning to achieve soft switching which will reduce the spikes and ringing. You may also want to try increasing the 5R gate drive resistance to make the switching transitions more gradual. The quicker you try to redirect heavy currents the more voltage you develop across stray inductances from Ldi/dt Slowing down the switching transitions often cleans up a lot of the switching noise at the expense of a few efficiency points.

I found by shortening the leads the ringing almost goes away completely leading me to believe this is stray inductance. The problem is if the leads are this short I don't have enough length to connect two mosfet modules in parallel.
The gate lead splits into a Y. If the top of the Y is too short I can't connect the two modules in parallel.
So, Richie, your suggestion is to change the 5 ohms to something larger like 10?

I already have shielding for EMI.
Changing the gate resistor from 5 to 10 ohms significantly reduced the ring to almost nothing. I just hope the gate charges fast enough when I run it at higher frequencies.
