Hi All Expert,

The power supply for this project turned out to be quite a challenge. I needed to deliver something like 15V at 50 AMP

DC.

I also wanted it to be variable between 0 and 15V using a pot trimmer. I checked out a variety of different designs, like

a switched-mode system using IGBTs, but in the end I decided to use old-fashioned thyristors. I was attracted to

thyristors because they are hard to blow up, easy to drive, and cheap. However, the triggering circuit is a bit more

complex. dead sad

The attachment are my part of circuit diagram. So i need advise, suggestion or solution on triggering circuit. tongue tongue

The best way is diy circuit. (cheap and reliable) amazed amazed

Hoping to hear from 4hv.org EXPERT very soon.

Best Regards,

liew nelson.

Why not just use a variac to control the voltage into your transformer?
Btw, I am not one of the experts. tongue

Hi LarsE,

Good idea, using variac control the voltage into transformer

but panel size and cost have increase. Anyway, I didn't

have experience on triggering circuit, so I need some one

give me advise and suggestion of triggering circuit to hook

up my attachment project.

Thank very much for your suggestion.

Hoping to hear from 4hv.org EXPERT very soon.

Thanks.

Best Regard,

liew nelson.

You can simplify the design by replacing the two 'upper' thyristors with diodes,
leaving only the two 'lower' thyristors to trigger.

A 'clever' approach is to use a centre-tapped transformer secondary to produce two sinewaves of equal but opposite amplitude which are used for triggering.
A dc offset on the centre-tap provides power control.

Actual circuit diagrams may be found via google etc. since as you will have read in the rules, new members with few posts are supposed NOT to ask for such things !

Look up Phasetronics, they are based in Florida and can sell you a phase control board if you need it right away. I realize you probably don't want to fork over the money for the board, but buying the board will probably save you a lot of time and money.

I thought brush plating was a low current process, unless you're using huge brushes?
