Yes, but their ratings are often lower than SCRs and they cost more. If you have one which can handle the power you can certainly use it. A triac is just the same 2 SCRs in anti-parrallel.

Actually i found 600 volt 40 amp (400 amp surge) triacs for 1.90 us dollars a piece EDIT: sorry its 420 amp surge for 12.7 ms

If your pulse is within those limits then there's nothing wrong with using it.
