I have just built a ZVS driver using IGBTs and I was wondering if ultra fast reverse recovery diodes for the IGBTs are needed. They are HGTG40N60B3 and I don't think they have an internal high speed reverse diode. data is here:
So, is a reverse recovery diode even required? and what should be its current rating? (UF4007, UF5408, or MUR1660)
EDIT: I powered it up and the current draw was short circuit of the transformer supply, but when i tested the igbts they are OK. perhaps its a wiring short. I also noticed that the BV (C-E) is 600v but the BV (E-C) is only 10 volts. So a reverse diode should be needed because the reverse breakdown voltage is so low
Thanks, kiat
