Hi, I've just found this (scroll down to see the schematic) where the autor claims that his driver will output hundreds of watts without the transistor even needing a heatsink. suprised If it's true, then this is a simple and powerful FD, without the need for mains xformer. The toughest part seems to be the clamping of primary spikes (running 230V mains here). I'll buy parts tomorrow and if it works I will post here.

I found it to be really slow, so I mirrored it.

Please don't spread this link outside 4HV.

I can't figure out what language that site is in... But from the pictures...
The transistor is on a huge heatsink, and the output he is getting is pretty crappy... the zvs would outdo it any time (but he wound need 1200v devices...)

I would have to agree, It looks as if his transistor is on a giant heatsink, or just a large piece of metal which would still help disispate heat. Also, I am not so sure how trust worthy he is seeing how many components he has murdered :X

What I want is some of those "tesla" marked resistors.

I see some really ugly joints, and a huge pile of dead silicon.
Not to mention the heatsink, you can even see the heatsink compound on some of the dead silicons.

Might give it a try.
The tesla resistors are indeed lovely.

It is in Czech. He says that the transistor doesnt need a heatsink. Also under the picture with the crappy arc there is written "driver test" (translated), which seems to be with a 100watt light bulb in series. He probably put the transistor on a heatsink just to be safe / the heatsink was a stand for the whole driver tongue and yeah those "Tesla" resistors, I have hundreds of them shades

Hey, you Croatian and Czech guys could make a business of swapping these Tesla resistors, which WE can't get, for IGBTs and stuff that YOU can't get smile
