As a part of my overly ambitious Marx Generator project I am planning to construct a HV transformer similar to what Steve Ward did in his CCPS. Since I dont have access to the huge U-cores he used, I was thinking about getting a couple of these 2.5" by 1" E-cores (I can get them cheaply) and breaking them up to make two E's into one 3x2" U. Ferrite breaks rather well and can also easily be glued with superglue, so to me this sound like a good idea. I could have a 3" high secondary widing, so plenty of turns even with only one layer. Yeah, I don't want to do vacuum potting.
Now about the calulations: We had a thread on this on the old board, but I cannot find it anymore. How do I go from the core specs and the frequency I have choosen to work at to the maximum volts per turn? Steve was getting 100V / turn, which is something I would like to aim for too. I know that B = E x t / (A x N) but I don't know how to figure out the B_sat from the core parameters.

For common power ferrites Bpeak is 0.35 to 0.45 Tesla, dependant on temperature.
For high frequencies I use these figures as a guide; 25 kHz 0.2T 100kHz 0.1T 200kHz 0.05T With assisted cooling of the core (oil/fan) you could add 50% For short runs you could double these figures.
From about 100 kHz to 500 kHz Bpeak is almost inversely proportional to frequency, hence (volts/turn) is roughly constant.
