TO-264 socket?

Hi, I have been doing a bit of experimenting pushing my DRSSTC, but as everyone knows, the IGBT's have a hard enough time as it is. Although, my problem is, replacing the IGBT's requires disassembling the whole coil base, which is quite annoying. The IGBT's stand upright on a PCB, and I can't get down the side of it with a soldering iron, so I was thinking of some sort of socket that I could just push the IGBT's into/pull them out without soldering.

Although, I haven't seen any TO-264 sockets anywhere, and was told, I probably won't, since they aren't really needed.

So I guess what I am looking for, is a suitable DIY way to connect IGBT's and be able to replace them easily.

Any idea's?

You could use simple PCB terminal blocks...

Just be careful that the terminal block arrangement doesn't interfere with the clamping down of the device's backplate onto whatever heatsink you are using.

It is easy to end up with an arrangement where the terminal block exerts a force that lifts the package away from the heatsink at the lead end. That is not good for thermal conduction!

Also keep in mind that any connector that you put between the IGBT and the PCB is adding to the lead lengths of the device. Normally you want to keep these lengths as short as possible to reduce stray inductance. Additional conductor length here will add to lead inductance and make any switching spikes and ringing worse.
