I have been testing the celem capacitor with my induction heater and have blown some igbts after hitting 25A. I had the current lagging the voltage by about 10 degrees. I was operating at 50% duty @ 100 kHz.
I need one that is rated for 600vdc and about 40A rms.
I am not sure if the IGBTs overheated from improper heat-sinking or some other fault like reverse currents. Here is the model:
Because it had a fast reverse recovery diode, I did not include one in my inverter. Was this a mistake? Could I still have problems if the current is lagging by as much as 10 degrees? I have put together a module that has a shotky diode in front of the source and a reverse-recovery diode between the source and emitter. I will see if this makes a difference.
Also, is anyone familiar with this brick, and would this be the way to go for a heater in the 8-10kw range?

On ebay Pulsar Surplus are selling some high power IGBTs for a good price, haven't bought from them but the look good
and there is this: US $24.99 "Original MITSUBISHI IGBT CM300HA-24H" 1200V 300A (average ratings I think) I ordered one of these, it was shipped quickly and I got it in 6day and it looks brand new (apart from the letter g written on in and a tiny bit of what looks like heatsinking compound in the mounting holes) I haven't tested it but it looks good.

I bought some modules last night. 1200v @ 400A for $25.
My question still stands as to why I was having issues with my IGBT. I looked at the specs and saw that the reverse current is only good for 12A. Can i still have reverse currents if the current is always lagging the voltage?
The good news is the resonant locking driver and celem capacitor are working just fine.

The problem was solved with adding a blocking diode to the switch and ultra-fast reverse diodes between the source and emitter, despite there being a blocking diode. When I looked at the specs, the reverse current the diode can withstand is not that great. I had the inverter cranking with no problems. Now I just want to get buff it up a little more.
