As stupid as it sounds, i still want to know if it is possible to open up a dual IGBT module and split the two halfbridge-connected IGBT's into two completely isolated IGBT's. This would obviously need some hacking up of the packaging, and the end result would be an unattractive hunk of silicon. But, is the C2/E1 internal connection connecting the two parts together, or is it a huge mass of individual busses that are impossible to access?
If i could do this, i would probably use a flattened 1/4 piece of copper pipe for the new connection (only needed if i need to use both IGBT's at the same time).
The purpose is for OLTC type of duty. I would like to parallel the two IGBTs. Or alternatively and more likely, i would use both completely isolated, with 2 separate primaries, 2 separate tank capacitors, and drive each gate separately, but identically.
I am not asking about it's practicality, but if it is possible. I have some IGBT bricks i would love to use that i got from a trade, and i have no money to buy single bricks. Also, with them in the same package, the temperature will be fairly equal on the 'two igbt's', so current sharing would be better if i paralleled.

I was thinking about your dilemma, and maybe instead of rearranging them in parallel, you could use them in series with a higher voltage and a primary twice the inductance. That won't require any modification of the brick itself, as a half bridge is just two in series already!
Although, since IGBTs can't avalanche (reliably) you should probably use balancing capacitors and resistors (and maybe even TVS) in parallel with each IGBT to help with voltage sharing.

yes, you can. Because i have bowed igbt, i can just cut some tracks, because all igbt are connected with each other with small jumpers, like 10 for one IGBT, and they are very thin, that is strange. but you need IGBT without epoxy glue inside, just silicon

Thanks everyone!
I decided to rip a brick apart and inspect it a bit. I think in one of the bricks i have, i found what you would want to cut. I am not chopping this brick up, but at least i am getting an idea on how things are connected in these babies.
