I was rummaging through the junk in my basement and found a few circuit boards, one belonged to a CRT monitor. I haven't had any experience with flyback transformers so i'm a bit puzzled by a few extra wires coming off the back of the thing. The wires have been cut so i have no idea what they were attached to. I can only guess they powered something other than the electron gun. Any ideas?

I'd really like to use the flyback from that board instead of buying a new one, any ideas on how to easily remove it from the board? I've tried soldering it off, but it has too many soldering connections x.x

Yes they did, the screen and focus. They are connected to a voltage divider in the flyback. See those knobs on the side? Those set the screen, focus, etc. Just cut the wires off, you will not need them.

Also, your picture is oversized.

You could soak up the excess solder with de-soldering braid, and/or a de-soldering pump, or use a heat gun of the sort used for stripping paint to heat up that whole area of the board.

I removed a lot of flybacks just with a soldering gun, it takes some patience but after 5-10mins its out smile
It also helps to break off the excess circuit board with pliers, then the desoldering is easier.

With a soldering iron and a solder sucker it's quite easy to remove the flyback. And don't throw away the other parts in the board. Practically everything in a monitor board is useful. There is a complete switching power supply, the driving circuitry for the flyback, several medium power mosfets, some interesting amplifier ICs, a relay, and lots of resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, etc.

Oh and one neat trick, check the old board where the flyback was... on some monitor PCBs, they silkscreen the pinout info, which could be a good reference to what windings are where and voltages to apply.
