I am using one of the pwm outputs of an ATmega328 uP. I am sending it to the input of an optocoupler gate drive
The input appears to be a type of diode junction. I was going to simply take a lead from the uP and go directly into the gate-drive input. Upon looking at it I think I should have a resistor between the two so as not to ground the pwm output. Is this correct thinking? Would 1k suffice?
Does it matter if the resistor is on the input or the grounding lead of the the FOD3180?

The input is a simple LED, so yes, you'll need to limit the current through it to 25mA average according to the datasheet. The resistor location doesn't matter.
