Looking into this subject to broaden my knowledge of matter.
I would like to be able to create a bias og 20V or so, above up to 1200V just like it is done inside the popular Hbridge driver chips for example HIP408x from Intersil.

Are there chips available for this purpose, with the needed voltage standoff, or must I build with discretes?

Cheers, Finn Hammer

Hi Finn.

Although a charge-pump circuit is one option, you might also want to look at DC-DC converters to provide floating supplies for high-side power devices.

They are often available with input to output isolation voltages of a few kv.

Hi guys

An idea about floating smps - a power supply for those hallogen lamps (electronic transformers). It seems that there is plenty of room to wind your own secondaries. ( I have a Philips one). The core is covered with some kind of plastic (the insulation shoud be fairly good). And they cost like 5$. The down side - to get it going you have to load it quite heavily. Also there is the 100hz problem ... link for more info :) Link2 (somewhere after the middle)

Cheers smile

-Richie,

Oh Yes, I had forgotten about those little critters.
Fact is, I fell in love with the term "Charge Pump" and that clouded my mind.
