Just curious if anyone has had luck with any particular epoxy / adhesive which works well with aluminum. I have some small aluminum stand-offs
which i'd like to secure (non-load bearing) to an aluminum front panel. Doesn't have to look good at all, just hold.

I've tried a variety of epoxies / adhesives so far, but nothing really has impressed me. I've also searched through plethora's of different epoxies, and
they all pretty much say they bond "some" metals (including aluminum), but never really say how well they work.

Thanks

I have heard that Araldite 2015 gives excellent strength and durability for aluminium but I have not tried it myself. The cleaning and preparation of the surface is probably extremely important.

Severe abrasion or pitting of your aluminium will help the epoxy get a 'bite'...

I've found two-part potting compound from RS-Components to be nice-ish, but it doesn't perform as well as Araldite two-part.

What's the nature of your standoff? Hexagonal tube thing? Can you counterbore the front panel to allow some nesting to some extent?

Counterbore the front panel . . .

Cool. Thats an excellent idea. If i do that, i'm sure i'll be fine with just regular two-part 5 minute epoxy.

My application is just supporting a small PCB board on the back of a front panel. I deliberatively didn't use screws since i didn't want to have them showing on the front panel.

Cool. Thanks

Well, its rare one can’t weld it, tap/bolt it, or rivet it. However for optics a dab of cyanoacrylate works. For epoxy one often ends up cutting shallow 3mm holes or criss-cross slots in the surface. Then simply clean surfaces with alcohol prior to gluing, vacuum de-airing, and vice clamping the parts together to dry in the oven.

IIRC there was a product called cold-weld that is supposed to work well with cast aluminium. Personally I have not tried it yet.

i've successfully used 'B&Q poly power glue' (a 2 part polyeurathane adhesive) to glue aluminium, the ali needs to be roughened, and clamped whilst the glue sets - with 2mm thick ali plate, the plate bends before the glue gives up. Also works for gluing Lego to bismuth Link2
