Hey on one of my routine trips to the local tip. i picked up another 5 microwaves. and some other little bits and peices. and on closer inspection one of the microwave transformers was rated 5kv? ive never seen any more then 2.1kv. so i thought it was a cool little find well not little its a pretty big MOT, its 800 watt and very heavy. anyways ive seen people use a single MOT for a Tesla coil, but using a quadrupler setup.. so i just ran the MOT in its doubler config using its diodes and capacitor that where in the microwave and got a 10Kv single MOT :)

very nice find, the largest MOT I have gives me 3KV, get yourself another MOT like that, and you can have a kick ass power supply. (might need oil because there may be corona.)

Dipping the transformers into oil to prevent corona brings up other questions. The attached seems to indicate that corona happens under oil too. Mica under oil: (read the last two sentances)

You did well. I have an MOT that I've guessed the voltage at about 4-5kv and that's with a 150W globe for current
limiting. (We are on solar power, so I've never shorted an MOT).
