Dear All

I just wanted to show my latest project, a VTTC with 2 GU81M tubes.

The idea and schematic came from this site, thanks to the autor!
Link2

Whole Setup. High voltage power supply and VTTC are splitted up for better handling.

Dsc00046da

Dual-MOT power supply with some Microwave-Capacitors and a chaine of 12 Diodes with 1600V / 3A each for a total of 19.2kV @3A.

Dsc00045pk

VTTC itself with 2MHz resonator in the background, 2 filament transformers in the foreground (for each tube one toroidal heater-transformer). The heaters are connected each with a 1-Ohm-Power-Resistor for limiting the current in the first moment. After preheating the filaments these resistors are bridged with a big industrial relay. The grey doorknob capacitor is the primary capacitor (now 2x 470pF in series for a total of 235pF). The black heat sink is for the 2 470-Ohm/100W-Feedback-Resistors for the grids.

Dsc00050zh

Some sparks/arcs:

Dsc00172q

Dsc00143j

Dsc00197s

Dsc00218y

Dsc00159ea

For more information please ask or take a look to my website wink I know the pics are too big at the moment but I can't resize them immediately. don't worry, the moderators can :P I will do this as soon as possible. Thanx for your understanding.

Looks pretty good but i´d suggest you put the power supply in a box and use high voltage rated cable to prevent electric chock.

I see something that looks like an ALC60X in the background too amazed *drool*

Thanks for your answer, HFsstc-freak wink Well seen, you're absolutely right, I've got two ALC-60X and a Melles Griot-643 Argon-Krypton-Laser and some HeNes. Gaslasers and high voltage is imho a nice combination smile The lasers are also described on my website, if you are interested.

I love gas lasers! A dream i have is to someday get my hands on a multiline argon and a whitelight Ar/Kr.

Nice hot sparks!

I start to like more current in the VTTC sparks (more A than V input), the show is quite wonderfull.

Hmmm, hot sparks

Thanks for your answers, HFsstc-freak and vasil wink

@HFsstc-freak:
Your dreams will come true, I'm sure wink Multiline argons are not difficult to find... a good ALC-60X will do wink Argon-Krypton-Whitelight is a bit more difficult to find... but possible as well. I had a thread about mine:

@vasil:
In my opinion it doesn't matter if there is a lot of current or a lot of voltage: main thing is a lot of power smile I love these GU81 tubes wink They could do much more than this, but my variac is a bit weak sad
Love your DRSSTC vid smile Very nice indeed!
