Of all the things needed to build a large Tesla coil, a suitable variac seems to be one of the hardest things to find these days. I guess they just don't make many of them any more.

That thing is huge! And the variac is pretty big too.
Gotta love Maine Coons, the best kind of cat there is. We had one, or rather something that was mixed breed but still looked and acted like one. At his prime he weighted around 8kg. Lived long too, he was 18 years old when he died.
Not to get completely off topic, that's a ton of power right there, sure puts my new variac to shame (not that I'd need that much power, but...) Hopefully all that power goes to making big sparks, not loud bangs...
