Hi all.
Just received a bag of Lifepo4 cells from a certain online retailer. (eventually) koff D*******e /koff)
Noticed a nasty chemical smell when opening the bag and localised it to two of the cell packs.

Upon examining several cells they seem to be "leaking" a browny-black gel from around the vent which is concerning.
Many of those when tested were well below MSV at around 1.8 to 2.2V or so but some of the clean cells also do.
70% or so test to 3.22 V and look OK.

reckon these are bad?
have contacted them in HK but so far nothing :(

am wary of using any of them until i have tested every single one now, in case they are defective/fakes/etc.

regards, -A

Its dealextreme, no surprise there.

I bought 4 of these cells and did some tests:

Discharge profile
LiFePO4 Discharge

Charge profile
LiFePO4 Charge

You can see that they aren't really 'up to snuff' LiFePO4s.

That place is nothing but junk. I would escalate your paypal dispute to a claim right now. I do ALOT of business with paypal, so I can tell you that you need to ecalate to a claim (not dispute) right now and get ready to send that junk back.

We're unable to decide this claim in your favour at this time. Ps Buyer Complaint Policy applies to the delivery of goods but not to disputes about merchandise quality.

now what do i do?

Contact the seller >after< PayPal...
as sellers tend to use stall tactics to pull a scam after the claim period expires...
DX likely uses the slowest shipper available to decrease its refund rate.

Then voice your situation on the vendor's forums with photos if no response.

Usually, LiPol safety vents rupture because the cells' overheated from shorts, punctures, or stress.

Cheers,
