I have a 10 to 20000Hz driver in mind, it is a IGBT driven by a signal generator program and an amplifier. The computer will be isolated with four metres of fiber-optic cable and so on. I haven't found any flaws yet so I hope you can help. Also I have read about Marx Impulse Generators that use 1k resistors. They have a very sharp rise time (I think). Any help would be great.

True that, i have built a strobe running on rectified mains, using a 555 powered from a voltage divider and a power mosfet, worked just fine on regular incandescent bulbs. When i tried a 500W halogen bulb with it, the fet instantly blew (i'm suspecting too high surge current), but on inspection the 555 was still alive.

I like the computer program because it has several waveforms. I can get a 555 based kit with runs between 100 and 20000Hz which can be modded to 40000Hz. I might look into that after the centre vic hamfest.
