Hey everyone, I've been a lurker here for sometime and now I have a reason to post.

I created this railgun for school science fair.
Link2

Its a 15kj railgun, and yes my design is similar to Ravi's (RP181) but it also has some improvements haha.

My fastest recorder projectile is a 717mph 10 gram aluminum slug, so I have a maximum 7.49 efficiency. But I will be greatly improving this as soon as I have got the time. I have only fired 3 times and one of them jammed.

I have a lot of stuff in the works just havn't had time to test it all yet.
I will post more info here whenever I have spare time, feel free to ask any questions here or on the flickr page. I will gladly respond.

Impressive!
How are you measuring the muzzle velocity?

Thanks!

I built a very simple breakwire chrono using some pvc, wire, and 2 resistors.

Tomorrow afternoon I will upload a schematic

Very nice!

What speed does the injector alone give you?

For easy improvements in efficiency, try beefing up those black cables that attach to the gun and reducing the mass of the projectile to something like 5g or less, though that might mean using a smaller bore.

The injector wont push the bullet all the way through the barrel, it cant be that loose.

I am going to put some very big 000 cables on there (its just what I have laying around). I am also working on some brush projectiles.
Thanks for the tip on using a lighter projectile, I'll attempt that next time I shoot.

I'm interesting in seeing further progress of this accelerator! :D

If you need some 4/0 welding wire(117k strands), let me know. I have some that I would be willing to let go for cheap.

Hey! Great system -- it looks very professional. Would you mind posting some of the stats? I'd be really interested to hear about the current pulse and what not.
