I wanted to make a induction cooker that atlease warms food in a metal plate/bowl. I've made iduction metal piece heaters with the ZVS flyback driver before. heats up a nail to glowing red hot in a few seconds if ran at 24V. So if I want to make the induction coil by my self, how long would the copper wire have to be? and atleast what gauge size does it has to be? Also, i need some ideas on what to use for the heat insulator, so the coil stays cool while cooking.

Flat spiral coil, maybe 6mm2 insulated litz wire or similar. 30..40turns maybe.

Then you need somekind of high frequency power source, few hundred watts at least. Well made mazzilli ZVS can be converted for this purpose I think, using dual flat spiral coil.

would it work if I use the wires that are for house wirings? connect 1 end of the ends together to make a center tab and then make the whole thing into a spiral shape

That connection doesnt work. You must connect it this way:

A mult-turn flat coil made of litz wire will work well. Yes, it has to be litz otherwise it will heat up rapidly with the HF currents flowing due to skin effect. You also need to include a thermal insulator between the coil and the surface of the pan being heated, otherwise the coil will be damaged by heat from the workpiece.

A picture of a typical cooking coil can be seen here:

These app notes give some info about Induction cooking hobs and rice cookers...

There are a few errors in the first paper though!

I found quite a bit of litz wire wrapped in the deflection choke of a 21" Trinitron CRT monitor.

Compare dimensions of ferrite switching transformers with induction heating coil in the picture I linked to.

Looks like a lot more wire in the IH coil to me.
