I am sure this is basic for most here...
I wanted to scope the output of my inverter. I have 10vdc as an input, smoothed with a 1500uf capacitor. The inverter is half-bridge. The midpoint between the two mosfets goes to a load. The return goes to a capacitor divider - two 1uf capacitors.
The voltage across the load is a +10/-10 square wave. My input is a solid +10vdc signal. So, I have split my DC line and moved half of the signal below zero.
My question is how is the inverter taking a pure postive DC and converting it to an alternating voltage? I would have thought the signal would have been between 0 and 10v, with the center-point being 5v.

The halfbridge does output a signal going between 0 and 10v. But if you look at the midpoint of the capacitor divider, you'll find that it sits at 5V dc. The voltage across the load is the difference between these two: +/-5v. It shouldn't be +/-10.

Right you are Steve. I was measuring across the load, and not from the mosfet to ground. I redid the scope measurements and saw that for a 10vdc my inverter was +10 to ground square-wave. When I measured across the load it was +5/-5v. Thanks.
