very cool IamSmooth, what type of caps did you use and do you have a picture of your aperatus? how much power do you have to consume to fuse the bolt and washer?

I am working on a web diary that will document the whole thing. I will post the link when it is complete. I am still playing with altering certain variables, like the turns on the coupling transformer and the material.
The input was 90-100v @20A. The caps are high power metallized polypropelene snubbers from Illinois Capacitor. There are 20 rated at 14A/3000vdc/850vac. The inverter uses the HEF4046 with the PCA1 output going through an integrator. I have a trim on the V+ limb of the integrator in order to fine tune the tracking if necessary. I found it tracked resonance better than the simple low-pass RC filter.

I have a 20A/120v variac that I use to control the input voltage while monitoring the current. I never made it to full voltage.
The mosfets are here:
When designing it I made sure the inverter voltage and current were in phase. The water cooling is a must as well as some large heat sinks on the mosfets. With all this the inverter and tank stay completely cool. All the signals are very clean. Again, I will have the schematics and pictures posted soon. I am glad you guys all like it.
Can any of you tell me where I can get a crucible that can withstand molten steel? I saw Kimlaha use some asbestos-looking container and cover in his video. If I can contain the radiating heat I should be able to make a molten bath of metal in a few minutes.

hi Jonathan, what is the value of each capacitor and the tank frequency. At some point I would like to build this project and I am looking for some low ESR caps that won't get hot. I was thinking couldn't a crusible be made from plaster peris. they must make a comershall crucibal made from firebrick.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I put together a web tutorial on my project so those just starting this can see what is going on and how it is done. I have posted my schematics and numerous oscilloscope tracings to make it easier to understand. When I started this I knew nothing of inverters, let alone induction heaters, but I thought it would be a cool (funny, huh? I should say hot!) to try this. I had some issues understanding how the circuit was achieving the goal of heating metal, and I had no clue about PLLs.
If you to this tutorial you should have a great reference, plus the schematics to a high power induction heater. If I got something wrong, or something is not clear you can PM me so I can make corrections or additions.
