I was looking at your PLL for your inverter. Link2

YOu use values of 100k and 10nF for the low pass filter on the 4046. I was reading the datasheet Link2

Looking at your values of R1, R2 and C1 I am unsure how you determined that you have a range of 150-225khz. The datasheets simply show calculating R1 if R2 = infinity, or R2 if R1 = infinity. I also would like to know how using the low pass values you got your Fcapture range. I calculate only a range of 3800hz (1/pi * sqrt(2*pi*Flow/RC)

Would you help?

This has been covered on the forum many times, here are some pointers:

4046s vary quite a bit between batches and samples. That's probably why the Philips datasheet is somewhat unclear, they want to gloss over this. I worked from the graphs.

I didn't calculate the capture range at all. Capture range is meaningless in the Tesla coil application, because the frequency coming out of the coil is always the same as the VCO frequency by definition: it's the only oscillator in the system! If the loop filter is wrong, the frequency will hunt around, but it won't fail to capture: there's nothing to capture.

This makes loop filter design easier than in a real PLL. A Type 2 PLL becomes a Type 1, and a Type 1 becomes a "Type 0". smile

The range I calculated is just the range of the VCO given the values of R1 and R2.
