I have several flat screen monitors that have died and for want of repair I contacted HP (they just want to have me send them back out of warranty and pay them.). Well I don't have any use for the monitors and aside from any power supply available or further useful items within...(!) Does anyone know if they run low voltage or High and for that matter any useful tips? Any useful material in there or most all SMD?
I find many units VERY difficult to open. Repair info is actually thin on the web; with some places anxious to repair them for you {but limited info as to their workings....}

I pick them up quite often and bring them back to life.
Not too much of use inside. You'll get a digitizer with fixed timings and IO configuration for the LCD used in that one. The power supply is usually a 1 sided PCB hard switched flyback crap card.
No really neat nuggets of goodness except the circular polarizer in the panel itself...

I would very much appreciate any material you have on he HP units & or ViewSonic. I think bring them back to life is worth doing. Caps going high ESR sounds familiar. If you have a small txt file or PDF that would be great.

In that you brought up the subject, what unique or intriguing (i.e. new) items of HV goodness have you found lately???
My new toys are "NOT FOR STREET USE" coils from high performance engine shops. High Performance Boat customize have them junked & they are occasionally hot enough to really amaze someone who was used to using standard auto coils. The cap discharge boxes are really unique but hard to find for free. Some of the coils used for drag strip racing are really seriously nice....almost worth paying for.
