Hey guys,

I need some help identifying (or confirming) the specs on a HV Diode from a Microwave. I have 3 different types, and I can't find reliable stats on one.

The diode is marked as SR101C. I have attached a pic. I have spent 2 days on google, bing, altavista, and this is all I can find:

A site from the Netherlands stating it's no longer available, and offers a replacement part of SCL11Z. The NL site is Link2

And the specs for the SCL11Z Link2

The replacement is a different package, and rated for 16A 16kV. Can someone tell me if they know anything on the SR101C, of if this is most likely a 1 to 1 replacement?

I'm looking to use this in a Level Shifter on a MOT for a VTTC...

Cheers,

Zen

Zenador -

Microwave oven diodes are pretty much standardized, with three common ratings:

For "home" microwave ovens, 750 - 1200W
12kV, 350ma
12kV, 550ma

For "commercial" microwave ovens, 1500 - 2000W
15kV, 750ma

If you can't find specific data, assume that the diode is rated at 12kV, 350ma.

No microwave oven diode is rated at 16A; either your data source is in error, or you mis-typed the current rating.

Thanks Herr Zapp,

The other cylindrical MO Diodes I have are rated for 12kV 350mA. This one, in a square package, is unknown... The 2 links in my first post show the chain I followed, the second showing the 16kV 16A rating. I can concede that the site is probably/most likely wrong.

I was just hoping someone here had some more details on it...

It's not uncommon for semiconductors to be re-numbered to a particular product manufacturer, in an attempt to confine repairs and after-sales benefits to contracted service centres.

SR-101C has been superseded by HVP16, which has an axial package.

PIV = 16kV
Max Av Forward Current @ 60 Centigrade = 750mA
Ifm(surge) 8.3ms = 50A
Max DC Forward V Drop at 750mA = 10V
Max DC Rev Current at 25 C = 10uA , @ 125C = 500uA
Tj = 130 C

Thanks Harry... I have a handful of both the SR-101C and HVPR16-12 (the -12 rated for PIV-12kV, Io 550mA)

Can I ask where you found that the HVPR supersedes the SR101C? I searched and searched and found next to nil.

SR-101C was also packaged as SPM-1402, so I found out from there.

By the way, I made a mistake in telling you that HVP16 was in an axial package. It is the electrically identical HVM16 that is axial, and HVP16 that is packaged in a kind of funky plastic block with bolt lugs at either end.

There are two manufacturers of HVP16, both in China, which is why English language searches often come up with very little.

Leshan Radio Ltd (China) HVP16 - Link2

Rectron Semiconductors (Shanghai, China) - HVP16 data sheet has some useful graphs: Link2

Your General Instrument* HVPR16-12 are 12kV PIV, 8kV RMS, 550mA, Peak Surge (8.3ms) 200A, Max DC Rev Current 5uA, Max Instant Forward Voltage 10V.

* Donald Rumsfeld was the CEO of General Instrument from 1990-1993, so the diodes may not be good for your health. cheesey
