I had a brilliant idea for an almost practical controller upgrade! When the PS3 controller runs out of juice it has to be charged for several minutes before its usable again. I thought to my self "Super Capacitors!". If I put a supercap and diode across the battery that should give me several minutes of game play before it runs out. I dont know much about USB but, can it handle charging a Supercap?

Probably won't work unless you also add an overvoltage protection on the supercap, as they are prone to damage by overvoltage.
There was a circuit on t'intertubes a while back about using a 9V shell with a supercap and small switchmode power supply to emulate a PP3 without the expense and allow rapid recharging.
