Hello guys, i am working on a laser spirograph from instructables. This device controls 3 motors through a PIC with PWM. The motor is driven by 2N7000 N-Channel Enhancement Mode DMOS FETs. These can take 5v 200 mA. I have bigger motors so i need a matching higher power mosfet which will do the same thing. Any ideas guys?

The 2N7000 is possibly the most gutless MOSFET in the world (sorry 2N7000, but it's true! :P) so anything you pick will be an improvement. Just make sure it's logic level.
I like the little Vishay/Siliconix ones that can often be found on dead laptop motherboards. They come in SO-8 packages with a Rds(on) of less than 20 milliohms, which allows them to pass several amps without any heatsinking.

Man, your weren't joking haha, just read the datasheet. Gutless is perhaps an understatement.
Do you have any more specs regarding your motors?
The IRL540 which was suggested by Dr. Kilovolt is a good choice, if anything overkill for your app but at least you can rest assured it will get the job done without breaking a sweat. :)

My motor is 12v and perhaps 600 mA. I dont mind using heatsinking i just want it to react to the PWM the same as the other. So should i go out searching for an IRL540. Many thanks
