Hi all,
Just throwing an idea out there. Would it be possible to implement a standard rectifier diode as a crude varactor for making a simple CMOS VCO? The reason I ask is after reading the thread on 'singing arcs', and FM modulation, I thought I might like to try that with my mini 5MHz TC. Or any other siimple VCO designs?

You can also use a MOSFET with its gate and source shorted as an audio input, and the drain to the timing cap input. Like this (schematic in Paint from a friend )
(thats with the IR2153 half bridge controller, but 555 or other similar ICs will work too)

If you are using FM to create an audio modulated tesla coil, I think the distortion from a slightly non-linear varicap diode will probably be swamped by that caused by other mechanisms!
