I just bought a couple of 4kV-0-4kV boiler ignition transformers for about US $20 the pair. That's 11kV peak, so great for an X-ray PSU with a few C&W stages after it, if you've got a handful of suitably fat capacitors.
Thanks for the replies! I just harvested an LOPT/flyback transformer from an RCA television. It's rated for 26.9KV. I'm not sure which circuit I'll use with it to power my nitrogen laser.
