In a transformer , with a fixed primary and loose, secondary, if the secondary is shorted, the windings will repel each other. An open E core with 1 square inch area, will nicely launch a copper ring about 10 inches in the air with about 200 amp/turns on the primary. Such a coil, made on an old fluorescent lamp ballast core served very well to illustrate the repulsion effect which makes induction motors work. The copper ring was a winding of flat copper tape 1/4 inch wide wound to about 3/16" thickness and then dipped in solder. The applied voltage was about 15 volts AC and the primary was #18 bell wire.

It would be possible, with a large wallet, but, may I ask, why? For most (all that I can think of) magnetic accelerators, you are only accelerating the object for a fraction of a second. This makes capacitors ideal, as they use less energy and are only in use for a split second. the only thing I can think of that would need the continuous energy provided be the transformer would be and extremely long accelerator or a closed (circular) one.
