Do I just use a straight voltage dicider with resistors off the cap connections, to the comparator? Or is there some curcuit that idealy should be made?

I dont know what you are trying to achieve here, but it might be a good idea to put in an optoisolator to avoid connecting the logic directly to the power electronics. Other than that, yes, it should work.

If you are talking about using a comparator to sense you bank voltage(in order to regulate charging) then yes a VD across the cap will work fine. Its the way I did it. Just make sure you use very high values, so you dont bleed your cap too quickly.

William yes. I havent hada lot of time to myself and no money so im taking apart my first coilgun and *upgrading* it if you will. Its been a couple years but it still works fine.
It was a halfbridge charged capacitor set up. I used my DMM to shut off the charger at 90% and fired with a marine curcit breaker switch.
