This is something that may be of interest to all Nikolai Tesla fans. Today my computer desk/cabinet failed tragically and fell apart. The print head on my printer some how moved back and forth at the resonant frequency of the desk and during printing the desk would shake back and forth. After two years this wobling caused the desk to colapse and break a bunch of stuff. I estimate the frequency at about 1.8Hz to 2.2Hz which is really fast for a print head. I have come to the conclusion that the late, great Nikolai Tesla is trying to kill me but, after several 'Coil mishaps, an explosion involving a Tesla Turbine and many others I am still here!

Well, the great Tesla sometimes failed too... Mythbusters actually tested Teslas earthquake claims, and they got some interesting results: Link2

Not to derail this, but my Ikea desk (fredrick, metal frame) is reliable, but I had to pay actual money for it.

As for the resonant action, I think that cause your printer was so high up it made it worse.

I've checked and with a solid oak desk, I can still make it oscillate at resonance, but most of the vibrations are so low that it only goes into the carpet it sits on. On the other hand a taller desk has more flex to it...
