I have made a 500kv each marx pair and I am looking to connect them to gether. Now the easy way would be to stack them for a megavolt but I want to sync them and shoot a horizontal spark. I have been to "I want my high voltage and I want it now" and he has some good idias. what do you think.

What you need to do is charge one tower positively, the other negatively, and arrange them so they both fire at once. That's what Mike Harrison did, and the page linked by Dr. Desmo has a schematic showing how to wire the two towers together.

Bipolar is definitaly the way to go, as it significantly reduces corona losses when firing. One thing I have observed is that EMP type effects are a lot worse, but I don't know if this is particularly due to the bipolar arrangement, the larger loop area or the higher impulse current. You really don't want multiple supplies, as a misfire could shove a very nasty transient down one fo the supplies... I have tried an end-to-end stack but this didn't work well, however this was before I replaced all the resistors with solid-carbon, and it may have suffered from some bad ones. Another issue was structural - the only way I could do it mechanically was to have the second stage at right-angles. Given a venue with sufficient roof height and some way to support it I may try a 1MV unipolar vertical arrangement sometime.
